It’s almost that day…our last day of school!

Traditionally our 3rd/4th grade has a Last Day Extravaganza that includes wearing pajamas or clothes of choice, bringing one toy from home, an awards ceremony and a feast! In order to have the feast, each family contributes one item. Would families be able to do that this year? There are 20 kids in the class, and families could sign up for an item below. Please let me know as soon as possible if/what you could contribute so that I’ll know if we can have our feast portion of the Last Day Extravaganza.

The categories are below. I’ll email as the categories are filled up so that we can have an even amount of entrees, side dish/salad and dessert.

FEAST CATEGORIES:

Drinks: (juice boxes or water bottles)1-2 choices needed

Entrees:(cold cuts and small rolls, small sandwiches premade, kid-friendly food, etc) 2-3 choices needed

Join us for a summer filled with exploration, investigation, and discovery through art, science, music and movement, and enrichment activities in math and reading. We will also be going on field trips and inviting guests in for demonstrations to enhance our learning of our topics.

Session 1: Flying and Crawling!

June 3 to June 14

Children will be learning about various land animals that crawl and fly, and their habitats.

Session 2: Healthy Brains and Bodies!

June 17 to June 28

Jumping, rolling, running, dancing – we’ll be moving and shaking to learn about how our bodies move and how to keep them healthy and strong.  We’ll also be taking a look at how our amazing brains grow and work!

Session 3: Marvelous Masterpieces!

July 8 to July 19

Children will be looking at famous works of art, and creating their own masterpieces using paint, clay, and many other art materials.

Session 4: A Wonderful World of Water!

July 22 to August 2

We will be exploring the deep blue, and studying all things that swim.  Children will also be learning all about what makes water so wonderful!

Cost:

$30/Day

$120 for the entire week

 Spelling Bee Words

We are excited to announce a Spelling Bee for our two Fabulous Classes next Friday, May 17th at 12 noon in the small sanctuary! Attached please see the list of words. Students will be able to study these words and then “show what they know” by our friendly and fun competition next Friday! Friends and family are welcome to attend!

Our students are excited for this Big Event! We have been discussing good sportsmanship and of course taking responsibility for our own learning. We know that in-class and at-home study as well as our team study groups will make this event unforgettable! Each day we will practice spelling and also the “how-tos” of an actual Bee, so that all of our students can feel comfortable.

We’re almost at the end of this terrific school year and we’re going to finish just the way we behaved all year—positive and strong!!  Our class was confident and calm throughout AIMS testing and I know we’ll see the fruits of their hard work in the test results!

BIG EVENTS:

Friday May 3: Talent Show! Please bring your children to the sanctuary at 5:30pm

Thursday May 9: Field Trip to Tempe Performing Arts Center ; Childplay’s production “Wrinkle in Time”. Permission slips went home last week. One parent chaperone is needed.

Thursday May 23: Last day of school and Class Fabulous Feast!  Details to follow shortly!)

Here’s what we’ll be studying this month:

Language

Reading: Our focus will be poetry, tall tales, and figurative language.

Writing: We’ll continue to write persuasively, add information, as well as review mechanics of spelling, punctuation and capitalization. This month is our writing assessment.

Math

We’ll strengthen ability in calculation, reading directions carefully and choosing operations for word problems.

Science

Health and safety is this month’s topic—including nutrition and first aid.

Parents: our weather is VERY HOT. Please remember to send a refillable water bottle with your child each day. Water bottles are essential.

A healthy snack for the morning consists of items like fruit, nuts, cheese, or lean meat like turkey. Whole grain granola bars without a lot of extra sugar are also excellent. Please save sugary treats for after school.

Students will be finishing up their how to books early next week and starting to make their pizza boxes. They will need to bring any art supplies they might need for their pizza boxes.

Some suggested items are:

• Clay (great for creating anything!)
• Paint
• Popsicle sticks
• Cotton balls
• Glitter
• Fabric
• No art supply is off limits and I want the students to be as creative as possible with it!

Volunteers are needed Monday-Friday next week anytime between 1pm-3pm. There is No need to contact me about it just come whenever if you can!

If anyone has an extra hot glue gun I could borrow I would greatly appreciate it!

Presentations will be on Friday May 3^rd at 2pm!
