Preschool

Right here on our Sage Academy campus, we are very fortunate to also have the Sage Child Development Center preschool and daycare.

SCDC believes in every child’s right to learn, to be loved, and to know that they are respected citizens and participants in our learning community. Preparing our children for kindergarten and beyond is each of our teacher’s ambitions and goals, and they are dedicated to providing a loving, caring and high-quality learning environment for your child. SCDC believes that all children are God’s creations, loved and valued by Him and that it is the teacher’s duty to respect the rights and independence of all our wonderful children while teaching them age appropriate values and responsibilities.

STAFF

All of the Sage Child Development Center’s teachers meet the requirements for preschool instruction as mandated by the Arizona Department of Health Services and Child Licensure. Our staff is continually trained and educated in the newest practices of early childhood education to ensure the quality of our programs and that high standards of education are being taught.

RATIOS

SCDC adheres to the Arizona Department of Health Services teacher/child ratio standards of Infants-1:5, One year olds-1:6, Two  year olds-1:8, Three year olds-1:13, Four year olds-1:15. In most SCDC classes we have a higher ratio of teachers to children than state standards thus affording your child even more personal care than what is recommended.

CORE CURRICULUM COMPONENTS

The SCDC preschool and pre-kindergarten curriculum is in part greatly inspired by the explorations, questions, interests, and hypothesis formed by our students. SCDC combines these reflections with core pre-k components such as:

Science, Language, Visual Arts, Mathematics, Music, Orientation in Time, Work Habits, Orientation in Space, Autonomy & Social Skills, Movement & Coordination

Preschoolers are given opportunities throughout the day to explore interest centers including; blocks and building, dramatic play, art materials, science, language, and math. Language and literacy experiences are integrated into the entire day through interactions, books, music, whole language, letters, and letter sounds. Through their play, preschoolers problem solve, use critical thinking skills, and build social skills.

     PROGRAM

The Sage Child Development Center pre-kindergarten program
offers student’s experiences within and across the domains
(physical, social, emotional, and cognitive) and disciplines
(language, literacy, math, writing, science, social studies, art,
and physical education). Pre-kindergarteners will learn: whole
language, phonics, and sight words; listening skills and
comprehension; numbers and number operations; geometry; and
measurements. Language and literacy curriculum includes pre-
reading skills, letter recognition, letter sounds, blending of cvc
words and writing skills. Children will learn how to read and write
simple stories upon completion of the curriculum.
